What Types of Treatments are there for Scarring Alopecia?

Scarring Alopecia is a group of rare hair disorder. The cause leading to Scarring Alopecia is not clearly known. All Scarring Alopecia involve inflammation of hair follicles. This inflammation generally occurs on the upper end of the follicles that hosts the stem cells and oil gland. If the oil gland and stem cells get destroyed, there is no chance of regeneration of hair follicles and that leads to permanent hair loss. This ultimately may take the shape of baldness. The Scarring Alopecia is classified into two types as primary Scarring Alopecia and secondary Scarring Alopecia. The primary Scarring Alopecia is classified according to the inflammatory cell type that is attacking a hair follicle. For every subtype, the treatment strategies are different. Clinical measures taken for treating the lymphocytic group of scarring alopecia includes regular dosage of anti-inflammatory medicines.

To decrease the number of lymphocytic inflammatory cells is the primary goal of this treatment. Oral medications like mycophenolate mofetil, hydroxychloroquine, cyclosporine and doxycycline are useful in this treatment.  Apart from oral medications, the topical medications like topical pimecrolimus, tacrolimus, Triamcinolone acetonide and Derma-Smoothe or FS scalp oil can also be injected into the inflamed scalp areas. The treatment is based on oral medications and the topical medications are used as supplement to the oral medications.  Sometimes the Isotretinoin also helps you to control neutrophilic group.
