What Type of Treatments is there for Involutional Alopecia?

There is no specific cure for involutional alopecia. It cannot be prevented either. It is a result of the body’s aging process. It is characterized by gradual hair loss on the head and all over the body. The onset of this condition occurs around the age of 40 and the rate of hair fall increases by around 60 years. There is no cure for involutional alopecia.

Several herbal and chemical products are available in the markets which aim to slow down the rate of hair fall and encourage growth of new hair. Minoxidil is an over the counter treatment for hair loss. It can help slow down hair loss by reducing the rate at which hair follicles shrink. It may also stimulate new hair growth. This medication has to be used continuously to get benefits. Anthralin is a medication used to treat psoriasis of the scalp. It can help stimulate hair re-growth in some cases. Finasteride is a medication that is used to slow or stop hair growth.
