What are the Symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis?

A skin disorder which results in flaking on the scalp and face is termed as seborrheic dermatitis. This disease is common among HIV and epilepsy patients. It might also occur due to vitamin B deficiency.

Seborrheic dermatitis is mostly seen in adults and infants who have oily skins. Hormonal changes, Poor diet, acne, use of cosmetics, illness and stress are the other causes of seborrheic dermatitis.

Some studies also show that seborrheic dermatitis has a genetic link that tends to run in families. In most cases, seborrheic dermatitis is mistaken as flakes of dandruff. Generally men are more likely to be affected by this skin disorder.

Yeast Malassezia furfur is considered to be the main cause of this dermatitis disorder. The dermatitis patients have very less immunity to this Malassezia yeast.

The following are the symptoms of Seborrheic dermatitis:

o  Cradle cap: it is a condition where the scalp of the infants gets affected with thick and yellowish crust around the hairline.

o  Flaking and redness: the skin around the eyelashes and forehead tends to become red and flaky.

o  Chest and upper back are the other regions affected by seborrheic dermatitis.

This problem may come and go or even last for many years. It is advisable to consult a medical practitioner at the early stage of seborrheic dermatitis.
