Are There Other Symptoms with Scalp Ringworm Beside Hair Loss?

Scalp Ringworm is a common fungal infection which mainly affects the children between the ages of 4 to 14 years. Some of the common symptoms of this disease include hair loss, reddening, scaling and crusting of the scalp.

 Apart from these typical signs there are various other symptoms of Scalp Ringworm which depends upon the type of fungi which affects the scalp. The Black dot ringworm is the most common type of fungi which leads to infection lying within the hair shafts. During this type of infection the hair becomes brittle and breaks from the surface of the scalp. The remaining part of the hair is left behind the follicle which causes black dot appearance.

The inflammatory ringworm is the infection which is caused by the fungi that is carried by soil or animals. In this type of infection the affected area contains kerions that are swollen hair follicles which gets covered with pustules. Fever, pain and itching can also be experienced during this infection.

Gray patch ringworm is another type of infection which initially starts around the hair shafts as small red bum and later on it grows outward and leads to scaly circular wings which are red in color and dry. The hair becomes gray and brittle and intense itching may also be experienced during this type of infection. Thus, it can be stated that the symptoms of Scalp Ringworm besides hair loss manly depend upon the type of infection.
