Alopecia areata doesn’t cause any pain for the patient and it is found in healthy people, it does not cause a threat to one’s life. The disease is non-contagious and might be hereditary in most of the cases. The obvious symptoms include hair loss in some parts or the entire scalp generally in round or oval patterns and in some cases hair loss is also found on facial area like eyebrows, eyelashes, nostrils, ears and beard. In very rare cases entire body hair is lost (Alopecia areata universalis). Loss of hair from eyelashes, nostrils and ears might make the patient easily vulnerable to germs, dust and other foreign particles which enter these organs and cause allergies in the respective organs.
