What is Scarring Alopecia?

Scarring Alopecia is also known as cicatricial alopecia. This term substitutes a group of disorders which ruin the hair follicles and replace them with scar tissues. The process leads to permanent hair loss.  Sometimes the hair loss occurs slowly, without showing any symptoms. It may stay unnoticed for a long time. In some other cases the hair fall is related with some kind of burning, itching and pain which is quickly progressive. Inflammation, which causes damage to follicles, is beneath the surface of skin and you can’t see any scar on your scalp. Most of the times, the area of scalp which are affected by Scarring Alopecia doesn’t have strong signs of inflammation. You may experience scaling, pustules, redness, draining sinuses and pigmentation on the affected region.

Scarring Alopecia can attack women and men of all ages. Acne necrotica, traction alopecia, alopecia mucinosa, lupus erythematosus, tumor alopecia, pressure alopecia, tufted folliculitis, hot comb alopecia, Lichen planopilaris, Sarcoidosis, Keratosis pilaris atropicans, Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, Folliculitis decalvans, Pseudopelade of Brocq, Erosive pustular dermatitis of the scalp, Perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens are some forms of Scarring Alopecia.
