Scalp Ringworm which is also known as tinea capitis is basically a fungal infection which appears as red patches on the scalp. Scalp Ringworm is curable and there are several things which can be done to treat this disease.

Anti fungal and topical medicines are used for the treatment of Scalp Ringworm. When the infection appears to be superficial in nature then topical creams and lotions may prove to be effective but when the fungus reaches deep into the hair follicles these topical medicines are of no use. In such conditions a course of oral anti fungal medicines is an effective treatment. Besides medicines, a good medicated shampoo containing selenium sulfide and zinc pyrithione should also be used two to three times in a day.

Various home remedies are also available for curing scalp ringworm. Application of warm coconut oil on the scalp helps to give relief from itching. Mixture of Castor oil and Almond oil also proves to be an effective solution for the treatment of this disease. Moreover in order to prevent this infection from spreading further, a paste of butea seeds or mustard can be applied on the affected part of the scalp.  Thus Scalp Ringworm is a contagious disease but it is also curable through various medicines and home remedies.
