What is 5-a-reductase Inhibitors? |
5-a-reductase inhibitors are drugs with antiandrogenic activity which is used in the treatment of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. When these drugs are consumed, they reduce the level of 5-a-reductase before it binds with the enzyme thereby reducing the level of DHT which originates from such bond. Reduction in DHT means that the sensitive hair follicles will not be subjected to its effect and will get sufficient time to become healthy. 5-a-reductase inhibitors such as finasteride and dutasteride interrupt with the effect of certain male hormones androgens on the prostate. |
