5-a-reductase inhibitors are drugs with antiandrogenic activity which is used in the treatment of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. When these drugs are consumed, they reduce the level of 5-a-reductase before it binds with the enzyme thereby reducing the level of DHT which originates from such bond. The side effects of 5-a-reductase are inability in getting erection, impotence, breast tenderness. Long usage may also cause prostate cancer.
