What Is Minoxidil?

Minoxidil is defined as a vasodilator medication which as the ability to slow down the rate of hair loss or stop the hair loss and promote its growth. It is an antibalding drug which has to be applied directly on the scalp. It cannot be called as a cure for baldness but helps to retard hair loss and stimulate the growth of new hair.

The true working of Minoxidil is still unknown but some experts believe that it reduces the amount of calcium in the hair cells follicle whereas some suggest that it increases the blood flow thereby increasing the amount of vitamins and nutrients reaching the hair. Minoxidil has to be applied twice a day on the affected part. Minoxidil is available in various forms with application differing from one another. Actually Minoxidil was formulated to control blood pressure so there are possible side effects related to its original use.

Some people experience increases in the heart rate or may experience reduced blood pressure. In some cases complaint of allergies can also be shown but it will disappear once the intake of Minoxidil has been stopped.
