Minoxidil was initially developed for treating problems related to blood pressure but later it was found to be working for preventing hair loss. Actually it does not cure baldness but it retards the hair loss process or stops hair loss and then stimulates the growth of new hair.

It is recommended by FDA and has to be applied directly on the affected area twice a day for better results. It blocks the hormone named DHT which is the main culprit behind the hair loss and prolongs the phase of hair growth. It will stimulate the hair to grow to its full density and return your full head of hair. For women it is available in 2% concentration solution while for men it is 5% concentration. The real working of minoxidil is still unknown. Some experts believe that it reduces calcium concentration in the head whereas some say that it increases the blood circulation in the body.

Due to increase blood circulation the amount of vitamins and nutrients reaching the head increases considerably thereby nourishing the hair and stimulating its growth. But excessive intake of minoxidil can result in side effects such as reduce blood pressure and increase in heart rate.
