Is Involutional Alopecia Curable?

There is no specific treatment for this variety of alopecia. The condition can be managed by using some medications which slow down the rate of hair fall and stimulate hair growth. Some commonly used medications include Minoxidil, a medication which comes in the form of liquid or foam. It is commonly used to treat androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.

It can help reduce hair fall and may stimulate growth of new hair too. Finasteride and Anthralin also may be used to slow down the pace of hair loss. None of these treatments can cure involutional alopecia altogether. Some people use wigs or different hairstyles to mask this condition. Hair transplants, which involve transplanting some skin from areas containing active hair follicles to the areas containing dead hair follicles is another method by which one can deal with involutional alopecia.

A cosmetic process called hair weaving, where synthetic or natural human hair is added to the scalp, may help add volume to the hair and disguise involutional alopecia to some extent. Following hair care basics like not blow drying the hair or using strong shampoos and dyes and proper brushing of hair can help slow down the pace of hair loss to a great extent.
