How is Hair Loss Diagnosed?

To treat hair loss, it is important to find the real cause of it. Some of the methods for hair loss diagnosis are as follows:

Hair Pull Test: This is the test in which 25 to 40 hairs are gently pulled. The ends of these hairs are put under the microscopic study to find out the condition of hair shaft and the bulb.

Hair Analysis: Hair analysis is done in the laboratory and test is performed to find out that whether the problem of hair loss is hereditary or it is because of some kind of mental contamination or medicinal intake.  The determination of hair shaft abnormality may be determined in this type of hair analysis.

Scalp Biopsy: In certain cases where there is problem of acute hair fall, then a scalp biopsy is required to evaluate the reason or diagnose what the problem is. However, in most of the cases hair analysis procedure would be enough and the need for scalp biopsy is rare.

Hair Shaft Evaluation: Sometimes, hair shaft abnormality might be because of fungal or bacterial infection due to which there is abnormality of hair shaft. This might lead to shedding and falling of hair.

Other tests to diagnose the health ailments: Certain health conditions like diabetes, lupus or other autoimmune disorders can lead to hair loss. It is important to consult the physician for determination of such health condition
