Studies have shown that there is a link between the intake of birth control pills and hair loss. The main reason for hair loss is the hormonal imbalance in the body of the human beings and most common sufferers of hormonal change are females.

The hormone level in the female body keeps on changing continuously right from the time she enters into puberty till menopause and sometimes even after menopause. The main hormones that undergo change are estrogen and progesterone.  At the time of pregnancy there is excess amount of estrogen hormone in the body of the female. Estrogen hormone will stimulate the growth of hair follicles and prolongs the growth phase of the hair. Due to this there is development of excess of hair which are strong and health at the time of pregnancy. But after pregnancy gets completed, the level of estrogen hormone returns back to its normal level due to which the hair loses their strength and shed off.

Birth control pills contains estrogen hormone so its intake will supplement the deficiency of estrogen hormone in the body of the female thereby promoting hair growth. Even in the women suffering from alopecia, birth control pills will increase the level of estrogen hormone.
