What is Alopecia? |
Alopecia Areata is a condition in which there is rapid hair fall in a specific or defined area. Normally, the area affected is scalp however; this hair loss condition can take place in any part of the body that is covered with hair. The causes of alopecia areata are not specifically known and research is still going on in this area to find out the best possible treatment.
However, there are studies which doubt a few factors that might be responsible for alopecia areata. Alopecia areata can be caused due to genetic factors. There is also a possibility of having the autoimmune factor in this connection. Many studies have proved that certain chemicals lead to this disorder where as a few also reveal that stress might be the cause.
Alopecia areata can be characterized by round or oval patches. There might be appearance of hairs on the margin of the patch. The progression is unpredictable. In some people it might be in the form of a small path while in some people it may even progress to 100 percent baldness.
This problem is a rising one. But, there are treatments and medications available for the same. Use of topical steroids, solutions, oral medications, injections of steroid can help re-growth of hair in the affected area. But the treatment needs good amount of time and thus patience will be needed.
